SPEAKERS AVAILABLE Peace and Justice Issues as Faith Issues
The VIC Social Concerns Committee, in partnership with Interfaith
Communities United for Justice and Peace (ICUJP) is providing an
opportunity for congregations, temples and mosques to connect with
speakers and resources related to the faith community's unique role
in responding to peace and justice challenges. ICUJP was created
shortly after the 9/11 tragedies. The founder, Dr. George Regas,
was joined by a broad group of interfaith leaders and members of
religious communities, and after nearly four years ICUJP continues
to be a thriving community of people in pulpits and pews who hold
out a vision of a more peaceful, just and humane world, and see
working for peace and justice as a moral imperative of their deepest
religious beliefs.
In partnership with VIC Social Concerns Committee, ICUJP would
welcome the opportunity to visit your faith community for
presentations and discussion about the prophetic call for peace and
justice, and about current local and global peace and justice
concerns. Through our outreach we hope to engage and mobilize
members of the faith communites in more active participation in the
repair of this broken world.
Speakers are available for adult education hours, as guest
preachers, Bible study leaders, as members of interfaith panels, and
speakers for special programs. We would be glad to tailor a program
to meet the interests and needs of your faith community.
The following are possible topics:
- Increasing our understanding of other faith traditions
- The challenges and opportunities of interfaith work for peace &
justice
- A faith perspective on: civil liberties, human rights, nuclear
disarmament, the death penalty, economic justice, the war in Iraq
and the environment
- Hearing the propetic call to work for peace and justice in a
variety of sacred texts
- What exactly is "interfaith", and why does it matter?
ICUJP plans quarterly Preaching Peace Luncheons where clergy and
religious leaders can discuss the opportunities and challenges
involved in preaching about peace & justice issues. Can we put you
on the invitiation list?
