Social Justice

History

VIC originated in 1964 as an advocate for justice - a united interfaith voice in support of fair housing and in opposition to racial discrimination. It expanded to address a variety of social needs through a network of programs and services throughout the San Fernando Valley - without abandoning its original vision for a more just, peaceful and equitable world. With our hands, we tend to those in need; with our voices, we call for justice, mutual respect and fairness. Along the journey we have discovered that advocacy with those in need is an essential element of each of our faith traditions and has served to show us how much common ground we share.

Mission

The mission of the Social Concerns Committee is to improve the quality of life through the promotion of social, economic justice and environmental justice, peace and human rights.

Goals

The goals are:

  • To educate the community to the root causes of social and economic problems and effects and to explore solutions
  • To provide opportunities for advocacy, action, and change
  • To provide outreach to board and community groups and organizations to promote human relations, social, economic and environmental justice, and peace.
