Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels (MOW ) is a fee-for-service program serving nutritious home delivered meals to the frail elderly, disabled and anyone in need of temporary assistance to live independently because of a medical condition.

It is the only program available to Valley residents regardless of age. Volunteers deliver a nutritious hot meal and a cold sack lunch at mid-day, five days a week. The meal service is a vital support for working caregivers who are unable to prepare food for their family members to eat in their absence during the day. For those just discharged from the hospital, Meals on Wheels is there to feed them while they get well. The meals are delivered by volunteers – often the only contact these people have during the day – and more drivers are always needed. To volunteer, please call 818/374-5350.

Meals for Homebounds

Meals to the Homebound program is designed to provide proper nutrition in the homes to those seniors who cannot prepare their own meals. This service allows for earlier release from hospital care, help prevent premature institutionalization or re-hospitalization due to inadequate diet, and temporary relief for caregivers. From its beginning in 1978, the program provides a hot nutritional lunch (five days a week) for the frail elderly in our community and is partially funded by the City of Los Angeles, Department of Aging, and the County of Los Angeles Community and Senior Citizens Services. The balance of funding is generated by fees and donations. 979 homebound seniors receive 103,972 meals annual through this program.
