Meals on Wheels

Actually, all you have to do is drive!

Each day in America senior citizens are going hungry.  At VIC we find this to be unacceptable.
After all, we live in the richest nation on earth.

Each day our senior meal programs are working tirelessly to bring meals to seniors in need and
we are proud of them. Our clients are our mothers and fathers and grandparents and neighbors.
They are America and they need your help.

Please look at this website to find out how you can help make the vision …”so no senior goes hungry” …more than a slogan.

OUR PROGRAM

Meals on Wheels (MOW) is a fee-for-service program serving nutritious home delivered meals to the frail elderly, disabled and anyone in need of temporary assistance because of a medical condition.  Volunteers deliver a nutritious hot meal and a cold sack lunch at mid-day, five days a week.

The program enables homebound seniors to live independently.  For those just discharged from the hospital who need temporary help with food preparation, Meals on Wheels is there to help feed them while they get well.  Meals on Wheels also provides help to the disabled by lessening the daily burden of shopping and preparing meals.  Costing $8.00 per day, it is the only program available to Valley residents regardless of age.

The meals are delivered by volunteers - often the only contact these people have during the day.  Volunteers often stay and chat with participants, reporting any changes in the client's status to the program manager.  Referrals are given to assist the client in receiving additional services as needed.

Volunteer  DRIVERS are needed for the MEALS ON WHEELS Program.  Meals are delivered weekdays between 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. daily and are picked up at the Bernardi Multipurpose Senior Center in Van Nuys.  We also have a need for on call drivers in the event that someone is on vacation or ill. There are regular routes, well mapped out, which can be scheduled at the volunteer’s convenience, from as often as every day to once or twice a week to once a month.  Please call 818/374-5350 for more information.
