The Bridge

THE VIC FOUNDATION

The VIC Foundation offers caring persons an opportunity make property, stocks, cash or other major gifts to benefit VIC. The Foundation provides donors confidence that their gift will be well-managed and will achieve their intention of making a current and long-term difference in the lives of seniors, the hungry, and disadvantaged families and/or in interfaith relations. The VIC Foundation’s sole purpose is to provide resources so VIC’s staff and Board can make their primary focus “to address and alleviate the human and social needs of the Valley” through interfaith action.

The VIC Foundation is an Agency Fund within the California Community Foundation (Calfund). All gifts are governed by the VIC Foundation Board. They are either applied immediately to the operational needs of VIC or invested according to the donor’s intent through Calfund.

The VIC Foundation currently offers interested donors the following specific options:

Greatest Need Fund - to be applied to current VIC projects addressing pressing but under funded needs.

Hunger Fund - to support various VIC programs to Prevent Hunger - Food Pantries, Meals on Wheels, Homebound and Congregate Meals for Seniors

Seniors Fund - to enhance the atmosphere and activities of VIC's Senior Centers so the elderly among us have reasons to get up and out each day, to engage them in life, to keep them healthy and active, socializing and interested in continuing growth - including those suffering from various forms of dementia.

Founders Operational Reserve and Endowment - to assure VIC's ability to provide uninterrupted services to those in need during times of restrained cash-flow and to build an endowment that will enable VIC to extend its ability to serve the needs of the Valley long into the future.

MISSION, HISTORY & CHARGE

The VIC Foundation was legally established in 1993 “to serve as the fundraising and fund development agency” for VIC and to ensure VIC’s solvency “through short, medium, and long range plans, fund raising and development systems.”

VIC’s 2004-2009 Strategic Plan charged the VIC Foundation to organize a campaign to generate $5 million by the end of 2009. Four major steps toward achieving that goal have been taken: (1) enhancing the Board ; (2) engaging the services of a seasoned Professional Development Officer (Mr. Dan Rothblatt); (3) developing a Fund-Raising Campaign Committee (roster below); and (4) affiliating with the California Community Foundation (in December, 2005). The Campaign received its first major gift of $100,000 at the end of 2005 and held the first parlor meeting of its Campaign at the home of Bettina Kurowski and Dennis Rose on January 26, 2006.

THE CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

The California Community Foundation (Calfund) is a public charity that makes grants from many individual funds to nonprofit organizations in Los Angeles County and beyond. Founded in 1915, the California Community Foundation is one of 700 community foundations across the United States with combined assets of $35 billion. Calfund manages an endowment of more than $750 million for more than 1300 individuals, families and corporations. The VIC Foundation is proud now to be among them.  The VIC Foundation Board governs the use of all its funds invested in and through the California Community Foundation.  For further information, visit www.calfund.org
