Download 2009 Annual Report
As the new President of Valley Interfaith Council it is a pleasure to make VIC’s yearend report—even when the news is not uniformly good. I am convinced that our strength lies in unified, coordinated action, and this report is an important step in the process of achieving this kind of action.
Now, I began by stating that the news of this past year is not all good. Let’s begin with the disappointments, and then turn to the high points. I think you will agree with me that the bright spots vastly outshine the dull patches.
This year, we experienced numerous budget cuts to our programs serving senior citizens in the San Fernando Valley. Our three Multipurpose Senior Centers and four Adult Day Programs each implemented unique responses to these economic challenges.
And, while government funds are on the decline, our client base continues to grow. Currently, VIC’s financial landscape reflects the economic challenges confronting government at all levels. Looking at this trend, I am convinced that VIC is at a critical juncture and that the most effective and sustainable response to these economic realities will be achieved through a balanced and diversified funding stream. This is now reflected in VIC’s 2009-2013 Strategic Plan, recently approved by the board of directors, and which will serve as our guide and measure our progress going forward.
So much for the disappointments and economic situation. The good news is that VIC will continue its commitment to providing quality services to seniors and to promoting interfaith understanding throughout our community. One piece of real exciting news from the front lines, is that the new East Valley Multipurpose Senior Center’s groundbreaking ceremony was held this past spring, with the expected date of occupancy being July or August 2010. Our new East Valley Multipurpose Senior Center will be located at the Sherman Oaks Park on the corner of Van Nuys Blvd. and Hartsook St. and be named the Sherman Oaks/East Valley Adult Center.
These are the highlights. I encourage you to review the reports that follow for
further details of our current financial picture.
